In an effort to be proactive and address adverse conditions related to extreme heat, wind and other weather factors that contribute to increased fire danger, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) is continuing their Public Safety Power Shutoff program (PSPS). Notifications about the 2022 program were recently distributed and all Hacienda tenants should be alerted to the potential for planned power disruptions over the course of the year.

Program Overview

As a safety measure, under the PSPS program, electric lines that pass through high fire-threat areas will be considered for shutoff. This includes more than 5 million customers that have been designated by the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) for elevated (Tier 2) or extreme (Tier 3) risk of wildfire. Most of Hacienda is not considered to be in an elevated or extreme risk area but still may be affected. Notice of a temporary power shutdown can come from PG&E anywhere from two days to one hour prior to an event and can last from up to two to five days in duration.

Preparation

Each property management office in Hacienda has guidelines that are specific to their building or campus relating to power use and coordinating a smooth shutdown. Hacienda tenants are encouraged to contact their building management to coordinate operations of important power-reliant equipment such as servers and other machinery. In addition, some buildings may have special operational considerations should a shutdown occur.
